Superintendent Shout Out

January 15, 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians and Staff,

Each January Michigan celebrates School Board Recognition Month. I’d like to take this opportunity to recognize the countless contributions made by the seven individuals who dedicate hours to ensuring that our students receive the best education possible in Richmond Community Schools. This week’s Superintendent Shout Out is dedicated to:  Deborah Michon (Board President), Angela Pacitto (Board Vice President), Sandra Fortuna (Board Secretary), Margaret Teltow (Board Treasurer), Candess Cunningham (Board Trustee), Kelly Oldani (Board Trustee), and Danielle Sutton (Board Trustee).

The RCS Board of Education serves a vital role in shaping the educational experiences of our students and the overall success of our district. Board members set policies, hire, and evaluate the superintendent, guide the financial health of the school district, and help foster a school culture that fosters academic achievement, personal development, and sense of belonging for every student who walks through our doors.

Over the past several years our school board members have assisted in the oversight of the projects associated with our 2019 bond dedicated to improving our facilities throughout the district. Their feedback and insights have contributed to our overall success and ensure that we can continue to move our school district forward and live our mission to “provide a quality education that empowers students to be successful in a global community.”

Beyond preparing for and attending board and committee meetings, our school board members also seek out and take advantage of learning opportunities through the Michigan Association of School Boards. Through these courses each member gains valuable information on how to be as effective as possible within their role. As superintendent I value their commitment to being the voice of the community and bringing their diverse experiences to their decision making. Please join me in thanking the RCS Board of Education members.

Sincerely,

Brian Walmsley, Ed.S.
Superintendent
